The engineers at Google have created a microscope to detect cancer.
The device uses augmented reality technology.
“We modified the standard optical microscope to integrate it with the possibility of artificial intelligence in real-time. This required the integration of augmented reality screen in optics and the formation of deep neural networks for cancer detection and implementation of artificial intelligence algorithms associated with the microscope,” – said the inventors.
This microscope is capable of real time to mark suspicious areas on the built-in augmented reality screen.
Between his lens and the eyepiece, the engineers installed two translucent glass. One of them helps to scan the studied area, and the other projecting the image on the screen.
The image falling on photometric, processed by the neural network with the help of scientists developed the algorithm that was previously used with similar goals in medicine. For this it is trained with hundreds of different images of malignant tumors. Due to this, the microscope is able with high probability to detect breast cancer and prostate cancer.
